Majlis Perundingan Pelajar Kebangsaan (MPPK)

On 4th – 5th August 2010 at 2.30 pm, a Pre-Meeting on Majlis Perundingan Pelajar Kebangsaan (Pra-MPPK) was held at ESSET, Kajang, Selangor. Three of four office bearers of SRC IIUM who are Muhammad Firwan Norliza (President), Hidayatul Karimah Mohd Mahyuddin (Secretary General) and Muhammad Syazwan Suhaimi (Treasurer) attended this meeting. The objective of this meeting is to gather all SRC from all IPTA and IPTS in Malaysia to discuss any issues which will not be discussed during Majlis Perundingan Pelajar Kebangsaan (MPPK).

During the pre-meeting, we were given chance to have dialogue sessions with administration of Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), and a session with YB Dato' Saifuddin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Higher Education. During these sessions, many issues have been raised by the students' representatives from various universities. Among the issues are as below:

  1. Unemployment among graduation
  2. Social problem among teenagers
  3. Environmental
  4. Industrial training system
  5. Students' development-quality of current students and lecturers
  6. Comparison on co-curriculum between local and overseas.
  7. The government plan in order to ensure the usage of English among students after the abolishment of PPSMI
  8. Reevaluation on Malaysia education system
  9. AUKU
  10. PTPTN
  11. Budget allocated for students
  12. Students' involve in politics
  13. Ranking university


During this dialogue, representatives from SRC IIUM asked few questions. The details are as below:

Sr. Hidayatul Karimah asked about the government planning on how to ensure the students able to learn English effectively and speak fluently due to the abolishment of PPSMI on 2012.

The PPSMI issue being catered under Kementerian Pembelajaran Malaysia. However, government certainly had their plan structured to cater the issue.

Br. Muhammad Firwan asked about:

  1. Students are not allowed to involve in politics although the students are educated people. For example in IIUM, we managed to organized a forum on politic and got an excellent feedback from students.


  2. Why ranking university is very important? I was afraid if the university focus more on this, the moral value of the students will be overlook by the university.



  1. How government implements any new policy - implement then research or research then implement as for example the implementation of PPSMI being criticized by many parties.

YB Dato' Saifuddin answered:

  1. Everyone can have their own opinion and argument regarding the issue. As for me, I agreed if the students involved in politics.





  1. It is important as for Malaysia need to show the real performance. It's being reported that Malaysia's universities are not very good however in certain part; our performance is very solid but not being reported and publicized by media.


  2. Each policies to be implemented will go through a research then the implementation


Besides, an issue was decided by the Jamaah YDP to be forwarded to the Deputy Prime Minister which is the issue of students' involve in politics. The pre-meeting end at 5.30 pm on 5th August 2010.



Meeting Majlis Perundingan Pelajar Kebangsaan (MPPK)


Mesyuarat Perundingan Pelajar Kebangsaan (MPPK) was held on 6th August 2010 at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), Putrajaya. The meeting was chaired by YAB Tan Sri Dato' Haji Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin, Deputy Prime Minister.

The meeting was held for working paper presentation from five universities which their working papers have been selected among all working papers submitted by all SRC's. They are Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), who presented on " Siaran Telavisyen sebagai Medium Pembentukan Masyarakat", Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), who presented on "Model Ekonomi Baru (MBE): Satu Tranformasi Ketidakbergantungan Mahasiswa", Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) presented on " Pelan Tranformasi Drastik ke Arah Melahirkan Masyarakat yang Sensitif dan Cakna dengan Isu-isu Alam Sekitar", Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), presented on "Tranformasi Pendidikan Tinggi ke Arah Graduan Berketerampilan", and Universiti Malaya (UM) presented on "Memperkasakan Program Pertukaran Pelajar- Out Bond & In Bond."

The meeting was end approximately at 12.00 noon.


KONVENSYEN MAJLIS PERWAKILAN PELAJAR INSTITUSI PENGAJIAN TINGGI AWAM (IPTA) 2010.


A Konvensyen Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Awam (IPTA) 2010 was held on 6 till 8 August 2010 at ESSET, Kajang. The convention managed to gather almost all Students' Representatives Council for all IPTA. The convention was also organized to gather all former SRC to bind ukhuwwah with the current SRC.

During the 3 days convention, two issues have been presented to the participants who are 1 Malaysia and Model Ekonomi Baru (MEB) and were being discussed among us. The participants are divided into groups and SRC IIUM got together with University Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). During the discussion, our group has been given questions to be discussed which are 'Sejauh Mana Kefahaman Mahasiswa Terhadap 1 Malaysia?' and 'MEB, Untuk Siapa?'. The come out from the discussion were being presented by all groups.

At the end of the event, the Jemaah YDP of MPP managed to hand over a memorandum to YB Dato' Saifuddin Abdullah. The memorandum entitled "Mahasiswa Berpolitik", requests the government to allow students to involve in politics. It also contain the result of 43% disagree, 53% agree, 3% unsure of the students are allowed to be involved in politics which the survey were being made among the students' representatives councils who attended the convention. YB Dato' Saifuddin promised that he will bring the issue to the higher authority to be discussed in further.

The convention end on 8 August 2010 at 12.00 noon and was launched by YB Dato' Saifuddin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Higher Education.
